Screen Printing Poster Art : Preparing Your Screen With Drawing Fluid

In this video, I’m going to show the basics
of how to use drawing fluid. Drawing fluid is a means by which it will block your, the
holes on your screen and allowing it to transfer an image. Drawing fluid is fantastic if you
want something that has more of a hand drawn feeling to it, not a sharp edge like a photographic
image. Drawing fluid is a water soluble, Kool-Aid like, sugary substance. It is painted directly
on to the screen. It’s always this blue color. So, you dip it in and you go ahead and paint
directly on to the screen. Once it’s completely dry, you’re actually going to cover it with
screen filler. As you know from the last video, screen filler is a means by which to block
out all the holes on your screen. So you want to paint directly over the area that you covered
with drawing fluid. And in this case, this little flower it’d actually cover the whole
screen. Once this is completely dry, completely 100% dry, you’re going to hose it down or
wet it and the drawing fluid will dissolve. Once you have wet the screen and the drawing
fluid has fallen out, it’s going to look like this. So you’ll have your screen filler blocking
your screen and a nice open area by which to transfer your image with ink. And then
you’re ready to print.
