Ads Friendly Guidelines – Barbara’s Take


Hey, Insiders! Barbara here. Welcome back to the Creator Insider channel. Today we wanted to talk about something
a little bit more serious and make it
a little bit more practical for you. So, I have John here. I will let you introduce yourself. Hey everybody, I’m John. I manage policy for
advertiser-friendly guidelines on YouTube. So, get that! We’re going to talk about policies
and ads today. So, I have my own YouTube channel. I have a live gaming channel and every now and then
my videos do get demonetized. What I would really love to better understand is our advertiser-friendly guidelines,
our policies what raters are doing behind the scenes
when we’re requesting those manual reviews for those yellow icons,
all the rest of that. That’s what we’re going to talk about today. Sounds good! Sounds good? OK! So, I have pulled up on my laptop here our advertiser…
what are these actually called? Advertiser-friendly content guidelines. These are in the help center. There will be a link
in the description down below and I’d love to kind of just go one by one,
walk through them because as creators, we should all know
what these things are, right? Cool! So, just before we jump into
the individual policies just keep in mind that
every single video uploaded to YouTube it’s determined whether or not it can run ads
using our algorithmic systems, right? And that’s measured
against these advertiser-friendly guidelines. So, when you upload a new video we don’t always have the full information
we need to know if the video should run ads and that’s why you might get dinged,
which we know isn’t ideal. That’s why we have the appeal system,
so keep that part in mind too. My first piece of advice before just
jumping into the individual policies is that thumbnails and titles do matter. They’re the first thing you see on a video,
so keep that in mind. Are they relevant to the video?
Do they have curse words in them? Do they have anything racy in the thumb? Those things really do matter
as the first line of decision-making verifying if a video can run ads. That seems like advice
that we hear across the board. Search and Discovery says titles and thumbs. Advertiser-friendly content guidelines,
titles and thumbs. What about description? Description matters too,
especially initially on upload. If we don’t know all that much
about the video right away our systems will look to the description
for any keywords that can help determine
if the video should run ads. OK, so when you first upload,
we start processing your video to try to better understand it
for these things. Do you know approximately how long it takes
for videos to get through this system? Yeah, so there’s a decision made
right off the bat but a more firm decision
after the system gets to know the video could be like up to 12 hours. Up to 12 hours, OK. How do we make decisions right off the bat? That’s crazy, I agree. How do you know? There’s so much video content
uploaded to YouTube! How do you know? There’s an instant system
that hits every single video based on all the signals
from your past videos too. This machine is constantly learning and every time we do reviews,
every time you appeal a video that helps make our systems get better. That being said,
it doesn’t happen overnight. Algorithms take time,
so that should be the expectation too. Your feedback matters,
but machines make mistakes. We’re always trying to make them better. Yeah, and so that’s why we recommend
for you as a creator… for us to know what the policies
and guidelines are and if we think
the system has made an incorrect judgment hit that Request review button, right? Exactly. Yes, yes. Any other tips and tricks right off the bat? Those are the big ones but I think
we can jump right into the policies actually because I think
the first one is really relevant. Do you want to read it out? Yes. OK, so we’re going to go through our advertiser-friendly content guidelines
one by one. I’m going to read them out here on my laptop and I’d love to hear
your insights about these things. So, we’ll start off with the first one,
controversial issues and sensitive events. So, this is video content
that features or focuses on sensitive topics or events,
including, but not limited to war, political conflicts, terrorism,
extremism, death and tragedy, sexual abuse even if graphic imagery is not shown and this is video content
that is not generally suitable for ads. So, it’s that last part
that’s really key for me there. It doesn’t have to show graphic imagery. A lot of feedback we hear from creators is,
“Well, I’m just talking about this event.” And we totally get it. You should talk about that event on YouTube. We want to hear people’s feelings on stuff. We know there’s a lot going on in the world and people are going to want to upload videos
to talk about it. But there’s just some stuff that
advertisers don’t want to be connected to in terms of having their ads run on videos
if they’re about a sensitive topic. So, even if no graphic content is shown the topic itself sometimes
is just not advertiser friendly. – School shootings, terrorism…
– Can you give us some examples of things? Yeah, school shootings, terrorism, death anything that you might see in the news. Mass-scale world events can often be topics
that are of interest to people to want to discuss but not necessarily safe
for ads to run in front of. Do you have any examples
off the top of your head of things that
creators might have thought were OK but then didn’t go in some policies? I think there have been instances where people are vlogging about their reaction to,
say, the Orlando nightclub shooting. A lot of LGBT creators were uploading videos
expressing how sad they were about this event and the reason that
those weren’t safe to monetize was not because of the reaction
these creators were having in their vlogs it was because
the Orlando nightclub shooting was such a mass-scale
domestic terrorist event it was just not safe
for running ads in front of in general. Yeah, that makes sense. Let’s move on to drugs
and dangerous products or substances. This is video content
that promotes or features the sale, use, or abuse of illegal drugs,
regulated drugs or substances or other dangerous products
is not suitable for advertising. Yes, so again, lots of interesting content,
discussions about drugs and harmful products and substances. – Educational content, in most cases…
– Yeah, that’s what I was going to ask. Educational content in most cases
should be safe to monetize. It’s only when you’re promoting,
or telling how or showing where to buy or showing the abuse of,
that that might become advertiser-unfriendly. The issue there is that sometimes,
as you can imagine that might be hard for a machine algorithm
to tell the difference between educational content and not,
and that’s where the appeal comes in. Say we were filming a video and we were able
to legally consume something here and we just happened to be doing it on video,
while we’re not focusing on that how do advertisers feel about that? In that case we would want
to give advertisers the choice whether or not
to run their ads on that content so you might see the yellow dollar sign icon,
which… Is that limited ads? …which would be limited ads. So, it depends on how graphic it is. If the whole focal point
is on you doing drugs or taking a substance in the background that would matter. But again, we would give advertisers a choice
in that case, which is limited ads. OK, and so advertisers have
some sort of control on their side. Do you know how granular that is? I don’t want to go into too much specifics
about different types of substances but yeah, I would just keep in mind
how much you focus on it. If it’s something not really
the primary focus of the video then we’d me more lenient there as well as if it had
an educational piece to it too. What about harmful or dangerous acts? This is a big one that I wonder about. So, anything that promotes
harmful or dangerous acts that result in a serious physical,
emotional, or psychological injury might not be suitable. So, prank videos. – YouTube prank videos.
– Yes. I’m going to butter my floor and see
if my roommate slips on the buttered floor. Hilarious, totally funny… Who wants to see that video? Safe for ads. Where you can help us figure it out is
you and your roommate laughing about it afterwards and your mate getting up
and dusting themselves off and moving on with their day. Where it’s a little tricky is
when you’re clear in the video that your roommate gets a concussion
and is bleeding all over the floor. That’s the kind of prank that we’d be like,
“No, that’s not advertiser friendly!” But generally, run-of-the-mill, as long as
it’s clear no one’s getting seriously hurt totally fine for ads. That feels like that’s such a fine line. It is, yes. That feels like
that would be very tough for… I do have a computer science background. Just trying to think about how
I would design this machine-learning system that feels like that would be tough.
That’s subtle. Yeah, it is tough, for sure. Is there a lot of gray area in this space? Yes, anything that really
focuses on graphic injury that’s where we’re going to start to be like “Oh, this is not something
that advertisers want.” Run-of-the-mill pranks, stuff you’d laugh at like stuff you’d see
onAmerica’s Funniest Home Videos… completely fine for ads. Does gore factor into this? So is it like, “if blood,
then advertisers don’t like it”? Is there a simple rule set like that? I think real blood is something
advertisers don’t like, that’s true. But, you may get a lot of times where in some of these prank videos,
it’ll be clear that it’s fake. As long as you make that clear at the end
or at some point we take that into consideration too. OK, that is a useful thing to keep in mind. OK, next one: inappropriate language. This is a large, large, large category so anything that contains frequent uses
of strong profanity or vulgarity throughout the video
may not be suitable for advertising. How much is too much? And what words are too far?
What’s OK? So, a few things here. Titles and thumbs matter so if you’re putting the F-word
in the title or thumb that’s not going to be great for advertisers. What about “F” with asterisks? So, again, take that down a step. Maybe limited ads.
We’d give advertisers choice in that case. But it’s the F-word. So, even though it doesn’t say it,
it’s still alluding to… For the title and thumb,
if it’s clear that it’s a profanity then it’s still a profanity. But in the video, bleeping, stuff like that,
that definitely helps. We definitely take that into consideration
and we appreciate that and we also don’t mind
you cursing every once in a while. People curse, no big deal. If you’re cursing like 10 times
in the first 30 seconds it’s hard to miss that too. So, just keep in mind
what you put in your title and thumb how often you use it and is it sort of in a mean-spirited way? If you just drop something on your toe
and you say, “Oh, F-word” not a big deal. If you’re screaming at someone
saying that word repeatedly – not as great for advertisers.
– So, intent. All of this context stuff,
that stuff that’s hard to figure out. So, you said something
I want to dig into a little bit. You said if in the first 30 seconds
you’re dropping things all over the place… is there something special
about the fact that you said in the beginning of the video
versus somewhere in the middle that type of thing? No, not necessarily.
We don’t have a specific formula or anything. It’s just that if I start watching your video the first part is what catches me, right? So I know off the bat and an advertiser’s going to
watch that first part too so keep that in mind. There’s no specific formula but realistically, people listen more closely
at the beginning of a video. And then in terms of inappropriate language are there certain words
that are worse than other words? How do we take regional differences
into account here? For appeals we have a global team
that speaks all the different languages that we support,
so they take that into account as well and that should hopefully
train our machine algorithms over time. There’s different, varying degree of words,
I won’t list them out here. Please don’t, please don’t! I don’t want you to have to bleep me! Is there a list out there on the Internet
somewhere that we can just like… I mean, things you’d hear on, you know…
I don’t know the specific words but there are some words
that are worse than others and also, again,
if you’re being aggressive or mean we take that into account too versus just when a word
accidentally slipped out of your mouth. OK, so it does sounds like frequency,
the intent behind it perhaps the types of words,
those all factor into things. Totally, yeah, exactly. And, once again, advertisers,
they do have the ability to select in or out. Exactly, so that’s why you might see more of
the limited ads states for profanity just because there are some
more conservative advertisers that are just like,
“I don’t want profanity at all” and we want to give them that option. It doesn’t mean we don’t think
it should run some ads. The other big category:
sexually suggestive content. So, videos that feature
highly sexualized content such as video content
where the focal point is nudity body parts, or sexual simulations. This video content might not be suitable
for advertising. So, where’s the fine line
between educational versus too far within this category? There’s a lot of great content
that talks about people’s relationships romance, sexuality, education…
great content on YouTube. For the most part, that content
is safe to monetize. It’s where you start
going into more graphic detail in sexual education where
you maybe are describing sexual positions sexual experiences that’s where we would
get feedback from advertisers that they don’t want to run ads
on that type of content. If it’s really describing graphic sexual acts showing sex toys… So, showing sex toys, is that OK? Where is the gray area there? I would say, again,
what’s the focal point of this video? Is it really education or is it more meant to be
sexually provocative? And again, also thumbs matter here too. If you’re posting a thumb
of naked body parts that’s going to matter,
even if the video ends up being educational. What if it’s a little bit blurred,
if it has pixel blurs over the top of it? Obviously, similar to profanity bleeping… nudity is similar. It helps, but if we can tell you’re nude,
you’re still nude, right? OK, yes,
please don’t upload this stuff to YouTube! For ads. Yes. Moving on, inappropriate use
of family entertainment characters. Oh jeez, what is this? Depicting family entertainment characters
or content, whether animated or live action that are engaged in violent, sexual, vile,
or otherwise inappropriate behavior. Yeah, so this probably sounds like
the outlier on the list. You’re like, “Why is this here?” So, we’ve seen a lot of content on YouTube
that basically is just trying to trick kids into thinking the content is for them
and then it contains some weird stuff. So, that’s the big takeaway from here. Don’t try and trick kids
into thinking that they’re watching something that’s totally safe for a younger audience… and then have it not be. So, if your video’s made
for the family experience then definitely keep that in mind. You don’t want to trick families
into watching something that might not be safe
for everyone in the family. Yep, that one seems pretty straightforward. Hateful content. OK, this is a big section on this page. So, video content
that promotes discrimination or disparages or humiliates an individual
or group of people on the basis of the individual’s
or group’s race, ethnicity or ethnic origin nationality, religion, disability, age,
veteran status, sexual orientation gender identity, or other characteristic that is associated with
systemic discrimination or marginalization. There’s a lot in there! So actually, for this one if you post content that promotes hate
against one of these protected groups that violates our Community Guidelines,
and would most likely… We’re going through Ads Guidelines today but you should also make sure
you’re aware of Community Guidelines. We’ll include a link in the description. But in addition, if the video
were to not be advertiser friendly the thing to keep in mind here similar to that first topic we talked about,
about sensitive events hate is also just a sensitive topic and so even if
you’re posting educational content about hate you might be using slurs or showing imagery from something
that’s also not advertiser friendly. What about satire or comedy in this vein?
How does that fit in? We definitely allow some satire and comedy. For the most part,
that should be safe for ads. There are some instances… if you use slurs excessively even for comedy,
then we might limit ads. But for the most part, that should be fine. Incendiary and demeaning. So, video content
that is gratuitously incendiary like lighting things on fire? Is that literally what we mean? It’s like, basically, don’t be a jerk! Don’t upload content that… Please also don’t start fires, by the way! Don’t upload videos that deliberately target
to be mean to somebody else or a group. So, would this fall under hate,
harassment, bullying? It’s a little different because those are more focused
on the groups of people affected by that. This is just a more broader scope
on just general mean-spirited content. Harassment, bullying, stuff like that. Yeah, so this says incendiary, inflammatory,
or demeaning video content that shames
or insults an individual or group. Kind of what you said. OK, I think that was the whole list
of things on here. What sort of final thoughts
do you want to leave us with? Because as content creators,
we want to make sure that we’re doing all that we can
to get educated but then also make the content
that we want to make to suit our audience. Totally. I guess the biggest takeaway is that
we want that for you as well. OK, good! We just want you also to put yourself
in an advertiser’s shoes and think like, “Oh yes, this is good content
but would my brand running before as an ad “match up with my expectation for a product?” Is there anywhere for us to go? Because I don’t think
I’ve ever talked to an advertiser. How do I get in the mindset of that? That’s a great idea. We haven’t really done that,
put the two and two together yet. Because also there are so many,
so many different types of advertisers and like you said,
we’ve got this limited ads thing where some advertisers are OK, some aren’t. Do we have sort of a canonical… you should think
of this category of advertisers? Yeah, I think that’s a big goal for 2018. We should be able to have
more to share with you. – More to come.
– Exactly. But these advertiser guidelines
that we went through today this is based on
direct feedback from advertisers. That’s where they came from. OK, so we worked hand in hand
with advertisers and we crafted these policies with them to ensure that
we can try to monetize as best as we can. Exactly. OK, that works. Well, thank you. Thank you, guys. So, this actually was helpful for me

  2. I admit I have whined about the new changes, but I have come up with some ideas that involve sweepstakes, contests, and giveaways (https://youtu.be/lO11bP4sOko). I think it might solve some advertiser problems. I plan to make more videos better explaining things, but this touch the base. My hope is that someone at Youtube will see my video(s) and pass it on.

  3. What about the times when they unfairly confirm the yellow icon? When the content is clearly advertiser-friendly? Is there another appeal system we can use?

  4. Thanks Barbara & the CI team. I always learn something from your vids….COMMENTS:Glad you are trying to reduce turnaround times for requested manual reviews. This should be a priority as it will minimize lost revenue for Creators. I agree with Experimental Fun and USNERDOC that when a video is manually reviewed and fails, would be GREAT to have feedback from YT as to why the video is not suitable for all advertisers so a positive improvement loop between YT and Creator can be developed.

  5. Almomst every video on our channel get flagged and unflagged after the manual review. The thing is, we can't not wait ,cause all of our views are based on how fast we upload our videos after a concert. After more than a hundred manual reviews we pass, you should understand that your bot is broken!

  6. Videos about monetization also get demonetized, that is censorship. It's not unfriendly to talk about, YouTube just makes it so because they can.

  7. When we try to upload some educational content, YouTube says that it is not advertiser-friendly. Does it mean that YouTube will not promote Educational Content? Is YouTube only for entertainment shows?

  8. I really wish I could watch this video and actually find answers to the issues that I am seeing on YouTube. This video does not explain why I get my videos flagged as unsuitable when I upload myself and a friend playing an E rated game, with no aggression or cursing in it. This also does not fix the fact that creators lose much of their revenue if there are no ads on the video within the first 12 hours that it apparently takes for a manual review.

    Creator Insider replied to an earlier comment saying, "If your channel has more than 10,000 subscribers, you can appeal your video while it’s “Unlisted” to make sure we can review it before you start to gain views. Otherwise, you will have to appeal the video as is and wait for the human review. We are working on reducing turnaround times." But why is there such a large limit to the subscriber numbers? Something like this, while still delaying videos for 12 hours, would still sit better with creators than having to post something live, and take a loss for those first 12 hours, arguably the most important time for a video, and the time in which it will receive most of its views.

    And it's not only about money, but through observation, it would appear that the videos that are not advertiser friendly, also are not recommended to people. So it seems creators are getting hidden while they wait to be reviewed as well. If this is not true, the please tell us!

    Can we not at least receive an email if our videos get demonetized? I believe the lack of communication from YouTube to creators still exists despite videos like this. And this is a shame, because these videos are made to show that YouTube cares about their creators. Sadly, with all of the recent changes YouTube has made to hurt small channels, I just don't believe that they care about creators nearly as much as they claim to. They will always focus on pleasing advertisers over informing their creators. Priorities.

  9. The problem isn't creators not knowing what the Ads Friendly Guidelines are…it's your automated system that's having difficulty comprehending. For instance, every video by a creator uploaded to the platform is flagged non ad friendly by the automated system regardless of the fact all the manual reviews are coming back in our favor. Let's talk about the real issues at hand!

  10. Being told a specific reason that a video is marked Not Advertiser friendly would be so helpful.

    Our Christmas video has 5 million views but it’s marked with a yellow icon. We think it’s because we said “cool gun” when talking about a nerf gun. It’s frustrating having to guess.

  11. There's a rumor going on that youtube is analysing comments and live chat content to help detect non suitable for. Advertising content.
    Could you comment on that, maybe confirm or deny it?

  12. I am subscribed to this channel under a different channel name.
    My concern is with his response to HATE SPEECH. He said hate speech is not allowed against POTECTED GROUPS. Why does it need to be a protected group? Hate speech is hate speech regardless as to whether the group is protected or not.

  14. This was an informative video, thanks! I just subbed and I'm hoping to learn more. The firearms space has been very difficult to understand in terms of being advertiser friendly or even being allowed on YouTube. On my channel, I make it a point to never use profanity or discuss/display anything dangerous or illegal. My channel is about responsible firearms ownership. 6:16 How is rap music promoting drugs, violence, killing people and doing illegal things advertiser friendly? Just search "Clean Up Man" and you'll know what I'm talking about. I would love to understand more about how these decisions are made. If you can explain the new firearms policies in depth, it would certainly help the entire community. Many of the things banned were things that are legal, but you just don't want on the platform. Perhaps you can clarify these things so that we may better align our channels with these new changes? For example, you prohibit showing the manufacturing of a magazine that holds more than 30 rounds, although I don't know of anyone who can make one at home. However, people legally purchase them and use them. Is that ok? Also, you prohibit showing someone how to make a gun. Does that mean if I show someone how to properly take their gun apart to clean it and then put it back together again a person from youtube may think I'm teaching you how to make a gun? If it was a matter of simply not doing, saying, or showing anything illegal it would be simple, but it's unfortunately not. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I know it's a niche subject and it's difficult for a lot of people to understand unless you are immersed in the community. We are Military veterans, law enforcement, and responsible law abiding citizens. If it were possible, I would love for YouTube to consult a firearms expert for making their policy more clear. I'm sure if there was a video discussing this it would have a LOT of traffic. Also keep in mind that many products or services related to firearms have paying advertisers who enjoy running ads on our videos.Thanks! -WRG

  15. The guidelines aren't the problem. The problem was that for over 6 months now, the maniac machine learning bot has been going over and above the guidelines.

  16. I have a strictly educational holistic health channel. I never promote the use of drugs either pharmaceutical or otherwise. Occasionally, I will do a video about heart attacks, Christmas being the most deadly day of the year (it has the most heart attacks), unsafe driving, etc, and those have all been demonetized. Is there anyway you can review a CHANNEL and see the history of it's content and see the character and nature of the channel and opt them out of the algorithym that might flag them instead of having to review each video? I'm sure I've never made a video that is advertiser unfriendly and yet for awhile there I was getting demonetized a lot and it was really frustrating.

Dead bodies top ten trending. YouTube like, "he is our friend its ok if some kids see dead body on the thumbnail were making so much money." I'm really sorry if that was too much truth for you

  20. Mainstream news shows have ads running all the time on commercials, in the back ground you name it. They talk about school shootings and the like. Why does YouTube get punished and not them?

  21. Well at least you have been clear in this that you do target channels based on previous content. It Is used to make an instant decision. It seems to me even on this channel that has been said to be untrue.

I can honestly say I'm sick to death of this ridiculous system, that does not work, and never will work, NO SYSTEM, can define meanings, nor for that matter can any human, for example, "DEATH OF A SALESMAN" bad video or literary classic? we can LOOK, a system cannot, this is why you are flagging thousands and thousands of videos WRONGLY. WHY can't you take note of the channels you are constantly harassing and victimizing daily, and WHITELIST them, once you can confirm they are not, never have been or never will be, violating any rules, this saves your time, stops the revenue that is being lost and most of all, saves my sanity and patience that you frustrate daily. IF YOU OWNED A BIG DEPARTMENT STORE, you cannot arrest every shopper every day, just in case they shop lift. YT while I respect the removal of sexual and other bad stuff, I DETEST and resent being treated no better than those people. You need to concentrate on FREEING us innocent people, we deserve better than this,

Harmful and dangerous, like this infamous Daddy O….for example ,abusing children as pranks? how long it took the algorithm to detect this…years? yet my video about my gates entry my block of land was demonetised, (back in the day i was monetised)…yet people can make fun of suicide victims…swear and bath in …fruit loops…i can see a difference in criteria here to put it mildly…

Unfortunately none of the YouTube guidelines adequately cover medical and health education videos and those with even the briefest nudity get misclassified as “sexually suggestive content” and demonetized. For example, Global Health Media Project, a non-profit organization, creates and freely distributes films to train front-line health care workers. They are important and valuable films, voiced over in multiple languages, and have helped save lives and improve healthcare outcomes for people around the world, primarily mothers and newborns. There is nothing sexualized or sexually suggestive about the content in “Home Visit for the Newborn” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UfFjQauP54). It is a video about how to examine a newborn during a home visit to check for problems or illness. Yet despite multiple appeals and reviews, it is still demonetized. It would be very helpful for content providers to understand what criteria YouTube applies when evaluating medical/health videos. These videos obviously have an important role in global health education and deserve to be recognized by YouTube. Thank you for your consideration.

  25. What if I use What the @#$!??? without even typing F, I think this is considered a censor, so it shouldn't really be a problem, should it?

  26. demonetization is one thing… deleting videos and striking channels is another… i think it's one strike and psychedsubstance has no presence more on youtube… and he puts a disclaimer in every video, stating the freaking guidelines and that it's should be ok for harm reduction and education, what it is… those "guidelines" are exactly so constructed, that youtube will and can delete content, thats just too edgy for them… and like i said… those videos don't get "just" demonetized, they disappear… this is censorship

  27. YouTube reviewers or advertisers should just green light what they deem as acceptable channels for an exemption from algorithmic screening; essentially, a good faith credit system. Then every video on the channel should be given an automatic green icon unless new videos are getting reported or the content changes drastically over time. Other new prospective advertisers should get to see a list of what channels are green lighted by which companies, so they can just make snap calls to advertise on those channels.

  29. Yes I have quite some videos riding my motorcycle on a road and still having yellow sign no adds running on these videos and having no problem with any of the policies , it takes several months to manually review that is NOOOOT GOOOD at all!

  35. I make videos on breweries that people should go to when they visit a town or a city and I also interview the owners and brewers and when I make those videos I am normally drinking a beer during the video. Is that advertiser friendly?

  37. in case of "in appropriate use of family entertainment characters" can there be any vivid symbol that one can make out it is safe just looking at the video, so that parents can immediatly make out what the child is watching

  38. So in other words, advertisers have no problem spending millions of dollars advertising on national news networks that cover world events, but they have a problem with doing the exact same thing on YouTube. OR you're not being honest.

  44. I have seen so many videos with kid character in them doing weird stuff that would scar kids or make parents think a show is not what it is. Example my little cousin was watching a mario video that came up in recommended because he liked mario, and it was something that looked like mario killing something that look like toad.

  45. Can you guys like update or reword the recommendation because the sometimes recommend this kind of content that goes against guidelines based on one or two words from past video you watched. Example say um barney then it recommends barney the killer or something, this is just an example not sure if its a real thing

  51. It would be nice to see a video that turns this topic around. What can I do to be sure that appropriate ads show up on my videos? My channel focuses on science education, so I would be unhappy if ads ran for pseudoscientific products.
